Your name in two scripts: Binance verification when the spelling on documents differs
Passports, national IDs and bank records often spell the same name differently, especially when it is transliterated from Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Thai or other scripts. How to enter your name on Binance so verification and later withdrawals line up.
Binance | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | identity checks and account recovery
Mohammed, Muhammad and Mohamed can all be the same person on three different documents. A name written in Cyrillic or Thai may be transliterated one way on a passport and another way on a bank card. Automated identity checks compare what you type with what the document shows, and later, fiat deposits and withdrawals often compare your Binance name with the name on your bank account. Small mismatches that a human would shrug off can stall verification or block a payment. A little planning before you submit avoids most of the trouble.
Decide which document leads
Pick the document you will verify with and treat its Latin-script spelling as your reference. Passports usually carry a machine-readable zone at the bottom with a standardised Latin rendering, which identity systems read directly. If your national ID shows only your native script, check the document selection screen in Binance verification to see whether that ID is accepted for your country; if not, the passport is the safer choice. Write the reference spelling down exactly, including middle names, so you type the same thing every time.
Typing your name in the verification form
In the app, go to your profile, open Verification and start the identity step. Enter first, middle and last names exactly as the Latin text on your chosen document shows them, in the same order and with the same number of names. Do not add a name the document omits, and do not shorten one it includes. If the form only has first and last name fields and you have several given names, follow the guidance in the Binance help centre for your document type rather than improvising.
Bank accounts and payment methods
Once verified, your Binance name is what fiat channels and P2P counterparties see. If your bank spells your name differently, deposits may be returned or held. Check how the bank shows your name on statements or in its app and compare. Where they differ significantly, ask your bank whether it can update the record to match your passport, since changing a verified Binance name is usually harder. For P2P, be ready to explain the difference politely to a counterparty, but never pay from an account in someone else's name.
If verification is rejected over the name
Read the rejection reason in the Verification section. If it mentions a name mismatch, compare what you typed letter by letter with the Latin line on the document, including spaces and hyphens. Resubmit with the corrected spelling, not a new document, unless the message asks for one. If you need to change a name already verified, for example after marriage or a passport renewal with a new transliteration, use the update information option or contact support through the in-app help centre with the new document ready.

Scenario checkpoint
- Choose one verification document and copy its Latin-script spelling as your reference name.
- Type every given name and surname exactly as the document shows, in the same order.
- Compare your bank's spelling with your Binance name before relying on fiat deposits or P2P.
- After a name rejection, correct the spelling letter by letter and resubmit with the same document.
